I've scowered the boards for a thread on the Orbiter OGN from Vertigo that came out last week. Did anybody else buy this. I loved it. I've always been a space lover, and given the recent tragedy with Columbia, this book could not have come out at a better time. It is all about how we should continue exploring space even in the face of tragedy. Just a wonderful story full of mystery and wonder. It would make a fabulous movie. Anyway I've just been dissapointed in the response to this book on the boards, and figured that the people on this board tend to be more likely to pick up a hardcover book than on the other forums. So this seemed like the best place to get something started. Did anybody else buy it? like it? IP: Logged |

Did you try the Other Vertigo Topics board? I seem to recall there was at least one thread talking about Orbiter (though I also remember it only had a couple of answers). Sadly, it seems you're right and the response has not been that great. My respect for Ellis has been lessened somewhat these past couple of years (that's the subject for another thread), but I gave it a try and found it a good read. Ellis' heartfelt introduction, if nothing else, should tell anyone he really loved that whole wonder of space feeling the space program originally used to inspire. When I was a kid, I remember waking up early in the hours before dawn whenever a new spaceflight launched. I remember those first space shuttles flights. Of course, most kids today could care less about the space shuttle. (Old guy bitterly ranting) ![]() IP: Logged |

quote: Yeah, there was one thread with two responses, but that is such a low traffic board that there probably won't be many more. You're right about the intro by Ellis, it was almost worth the price of the book for the intro alone. It really sets the stage for the story and that feeling of hope that you are left with after the last page. I can't recomend this book enough. I'm not a fan of Ellis. I thought Authority was OK, and Transmet is a little to out there for me, so I'm not one of those people that likes everything he does, but this one really works. IP: Logged |

Nobody in Portland seemed to get it last week. I hit 3 different stores, and none of them had it. I'll try again this week. IP: Logged |
